Podcast Episode 3 – Tips on Visiting Machu Picchu (Part 1)

Show Notes

Machu Picchu is a great place to visit right now as the crowds are still far les than pre-pandemic levels, but knowing the best routes to take are a bit challenging. Here are maps of the four available circuits through the main site. They are official maps and are difficult to read unless you zoon in quite a bit, but they’re better than nothing.

If you want to buy tickets to Machu Picchu online, this is the official website where you can check up-to-minute availability and not have to pay commissions that most agencies charge: https://www.machupicchu.gob.pe/

I’ll be doing a lot more segments of Machu Picchu in the future as it is not only my area of passion and expertise, but it’s also the most popular place to visit in Peru and perhaps all of South America.

If you want to watch some really good, well-researched YouTube videos on Machu Picchu, these will give you a great background based on real facts and not some made up garbage so someone can get lots of undeserved views.

News Notes

COVID is spreading across Peru at an increasingly rapid rate as you can see from these two chart showing data since May 1. (Click graph on each to see a larger version.)

COVID hospitalizations, a trailing indicator of infections, are also rising quickly.

Whenever there are updates on the strikes as well as other important news, I always make updates on the “News across Peru” link at the top of the page.
